Primitive Parts, Omi Palone, Shopping, Royal Limp - Sebright Arms, London
Talk about a good cause. DIY Space for London is looking for a suitable premises in which to offer entertainment, and as part of their quest they’re hosting a few benefit gigs across the capital. This is our pick of the bunch, as the intriguing Royal Limp (stream above) comes down from Brighton to play alongside Primitive Parts, Shopping and Marshall Teller single signees Omi Palone.
Jack Magma - Cat Gotcha Tongue
Is this as much of a gamechanger as everyone’s making it out to be? There’s been a chorus of far-from-muffled excitement spilling out of the U.S. over this new bedroom-pop scientist Jack Magma. His vocoder-shaped vocals mix with an odd analog aesthetic and an R&B style of songwriting. At first you think it’s pretty good. Nothing more, nothing less. But then you realise how intricate the whole thing is. The guy even pants in the background like a filthy hyena waiting on its prey. How can that not be a good thing?
Every pop record should aspire to be this heavily-styled and masterfully-crafted. The truth is few things will come close.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Finding a label in the form of essential new music blog Killing Moon’s latest venture, The Vestals will appeal to dreampop-dwellers and festival enthusiasts in equal measure. I can easily see a song like ‘Perfect Pain’ soundtracking big crowds throughout the summer; its Pains Of Being Pure At Heart meets Joy Formidable anthemia an ideal dose to cure the sunburn, hayfever and drowsy headed beer drinking. Oh, how we yearn to experience all of that right now. Just you wait.
