Idlewild Idlewild bassist Gavin Fox has left the band, and has been replaced by ex-Astrid bassist Gareth Russell.

In a post made in Roddy Woomble's official diary, the frontman explains: I may as well mention now that Gavin isn't playing with the band any longer. He hasn't played with us since the Barrowland show last December and has been a lot happier staying in Ireland working on songs that he sings in his own band Curse of Cain (it's good stuff incidentally).

It's no secret that people change, and experiences change them and I think that Gavin felt that being in a touring rock band was not especially what he wanted. And I admire him for doing what he wants. It's the only way to be. We recorded an album and played 165 shows together, and he'll always be a part of that

A lovely Hebridean fellow named Gareth Russell has been playing with us all this year and it's working out great. Gareth's been a friend of the band for years, working with us on many an occasion. As a bass player he played for Scottish pop group Astrid, and more recently Jenny Reeve's new band, Strike the Colours.

When Bob left I quickly realised that a band is all about putting out a particular description and everyone involved needs to descibe things in the same way. So it's only sane to assume that over ten years desciptions are going to change. I look upon it in a purely positive, creative way. Good music being made by people who want to make it."
