Gil Scott-Heron, the musician, poet and author, has passed away at the age of 62, it has been confirmed.

Gil Scott-Heron Gil Scott-Heron, the musician, poet and author, has passed away, it has been confirmed.

Chicago born, Scott-Heron produced a run of celebrated albums during the 70s, including the song 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised'. Drug problems and run-ins with the law peppered his later years, but in recent times he returned to prominence with a critically acclaimed album 'I'm New Here'.

This was then followed by the Jamie XX collaboration 'We're New Here' earlier this year.

Gil Scott-Heron was 62 years old. His cause of death has not been reported at the time of publishing.
