'American Idiot' looks set to appear at many a theatre near you, very soon indeed.

Green Day Remember when Green Day released that album that totally redefined how the mainstream saw punk? Remember when you couldn't walk ten feet anywhere without having Billie Joe Armstrong's voice stuck in your head? Remember the twelve minute long 'Jesus of Suburbia' video, and the black-shirt-red-tie combo that every male under - and, no doubt, over actually - the age of sixteen undertook? Well, that was the effect that 'American Idiot' had on the world. And that was, ohh, what, six or seven years ago? (This is where you ask how it could possibly be that long ago, by the way...)

Truth be told, when the Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong started work on adapting the 2004 concept album into a full-blown musical, it wasn't that surprising, but to think that it's still packing out theatres in the US whilst winning awards is something else. And with that, they're taking it overseas. First stop, our fair isle.

'American Idiot', the musical telling the story of that very Jesus of Suburbia, will head to the UK and Ireland late next year, performing in eight cities over nearly two months. The run will end at London's Hammersmith Apollo, with hopes that it may one day become a permanent West End feature. Only time will tell on that front...
