Reading Borough Council are set to decide if Reading Festival is to be allowed to expand over the next two years.A vote will be taken today (July 24th) after festival chief Melvin Benn asked to increase the events capacity by 6,500. There has been some opposition from local residents due to noise levels, but organisers Festival Republic hope that 2010's event will see a rise from 78,500 to 82,000 ticket holders, with the following year adding another 3,000.
On top of these increases, Ben is also campaigning to increase the number of early arrivals from 7,500 to 20,000, allowing more festival goers to arrive on the Wednesday, rather than the traditional Thursday.
