The Philistines Jr. Cover The National’s ‘Anyone’s Ghost’

The Philistines Jr. have released a cover of The National's 'Anyone's Ghost' from their 2010 album High Violet.

Yesterday, The Philistines Jr.'s take on The National's 'Anyone's Ghost' was published online.

To an extent, the two versions of the track from The National's 2010 album High Violet are very similar – both offer a hypnotic drum beat and melancolic feel. As a stark contrast to Matt Berninger (of The National)'s signiture baritone voice, though, The Philistines Jr. enlisted an alternative voice – namely the eight year old Henry Katis, son of the band's bassist. The use of a theramin also works brilliantly in this sinister rendition of the song.

As an artistic experiment, this is not as surprising as it may first appear. The Philistines Jr. is fronted by Peter Katis, who frequently acts as a producer for The National. In 2011, The National covered Katis' band's 'Twenty Miles to NH Part 2' for a version of their album performed by other artists (including Mercury Rev, Frightened Rabbit and Jónsi). The Philistines Jr. are also due to play at All Tomorrow's Parties festival in December which will be curated by The National.
