The XX The XX have won the 2010 Mercury Prize.

"Wow", declared the band's Oliver Sim on accepting the award for their self titled debut album. "We've had the most incredible year. It's like we've woken up every day to something incredible we weren't expecting. It's felt a bit like a haze. Just being here has been like a weird moment of clarity of what's happened, it just means so much"

The band beat eleven other acts, including Wild Beasts, I Am Kloot and Laura Marling, to the award. The Mercury recognises the best album of the last twelve months from a British or Irish act, with the winner receiving £20,000. Or at least what the judges decide is the best. We're not getting into that one, ta.

Previous winners included Klaxons, Elbow, Arcctic Monkeys and... er... M People.
