We at DIY are a curious bunch. We want to know what makes musicians tick and what brought them to their current role. We’ll be aiming to bring to you the tracks which helped shape the music you listen to, what gems are uncovered, what crimes are admitted to – we’ll be bringing you their Soundtrack.

Model Horror release debut single 'We Are Here' this week via This Is Fake DIY Records. You can buy it here on physical format, and here on download. We (rather obviously) like it a lot. But what does Model Horror vocalist/guitarist Ian Larter listen to?

First up we have the Blood Brothers, who we managed to catch on their last ever UK tour. They were so different to all the other bands we had seen before, and what we loved most was that they seemed do things their own way. They had a raw sound, but they still managed to find that hook, that piece of magic that draws people in. These guys have had a big influence on our music and if we can capture something of the urgency and energy that they had, then that's a real buzz for us. Always close to hand is the album 'Young Machetes'.

When we first heard The Faint's album 'Wet From Birth' it really opened our eyes (and ears). Stand out tracks for us are 'I Disappear' which starts as if the right note is being searched for, almost like a stutter, and 'Drop Kick The Punks' which is a great going out track! We like the synth and bass lines used in this record.

During a bout of sickness that left me house bound I discovered two albums that had a big influence on our song writing: David Bowie - 'Low' and Joy Division - 'Unknown Pleasures. Now it doesn't take a genius to work out that these albums feed into my period of sickness. So rather than the feel of the albums I'll mention the production on Low, especially the drum sound, which must have sounded so ahead of its time. On 'Unknown Pleasures' the sound of Bernard Sumner's guitar is immense. Particularly on 'Shadowplay'. It just cuts me in half every time I hear it.

Bit of a curve ball this one... Sneaker Pimps - 'Blood Sport' seems to be a regular on the van's stereo and always seems to help make the journeys between venues and home just that little bit shorter!

Other favourites when we are on our travels include - ¡Forward Russia! - 'Give Me A Wall', The Von Bondies - 'Pawn Shoppe Heart', Daft Punk - 'Discovery', LCD Soundsystem, The Whip, The Chalets - 'Check In'... Oh, and Sim our drummer is partial to a bit of Au Revoir Simone!
