Esser Esser is currently touring the UK to promote the release of his debut album 'Braveface' (check out dates here, pick up tickets here - the remaining dates are alongside Danimal Kingdom and Gold Teeth), which will be released on 4th May through Transgressive (pre-order it here). Ben tells us about six tracks that have influenced him - from the first record he ever bought, to a band he's going to collaborate with in the future.

The Outhere Brothers - Boom Boom Boom!

This was the first record I bought and I played it to death. I don’t think I even particularly liked it, I just bought it cos my friend had it and I thought he was cool.

Lou Reed - Satellite Of Love

This is a perfect pop song. His vocal delivery is genius every part of the song starts and ends in the right place, it’s the best drum beat ever, the vocal harmonies are amazing, etc etc.

DJ Zinc - 138 Trek

I really got into UK garage when I was 16 or 17. This was the kind of record they played in this club we could bag our way into. It’s got this great pulsating bounce to it.

Kenny Hollywood - Magic Star

This is a vocal version of Joe Meeks biggest hit ‘Magic Star’. His approach to pop music is definitely a massive inspiration, also its Margaret Thatcher’s favourite song, apparently.

Roland Alphonso - Nuclear Weapon

This is like a call to arms ska track. My friend DJ’d it a at the 'Satisfied' single launch party at St Moritz and everyone was very happy.

frYars - The Ides

I heard this song about a year ago and I thought it was the best thing I’d heard in a long time. We’re going to make a record together at some point.
