Mike Bones

'I know he's a dick, but... c'mon, dude's got some tunes.'

Mike Bones These are not necessarily my favorite songs, just a few that have been on my mind lately.

Animal Collective - Winter's Love

A ridiculously beautiful song - it makes my heart race. And I've been lucky enough to get a recording of it. AC raises the bar for all us musicians. We have to work harder people! These boys shouldn't have to do all the work. I find endless inspiration in Animal Collective songs.

Antony And The Johnsons - Aeon

Jesus! That voice! He's our Otis Reading. Don't you wish someone would write a song like this about you?

Johnny Thunders - You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory

He's the beginning and the end for me. At his best, he's unintentionally sublime, and we all know what he was like at his worst. Pete Doherty who? Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. My friend tattooed words from this song on my arm with a pin.

John Lennon - Angela

I know he's a dick, but... c'mon, dude's got some tunes. I've been listening to this one over and over the past few days.

Krallice - Wretched Wisdom

Krallice's Mick Barr has long been one of my favorite guitarists - I have no idea how he does what he does. This is no black metal pastiche, they're the real deal, with none of that bullshit corpse paint. How can something this aggressive be so soothing?

Zomby - Euphoria

This sounds like more like '95 to me, but who's counting? NYC was always a little behind the UK in those days anyway. The wobbly bassline and dubsteppy vocal loops kill me. Dude might have a classic tune on his hands.
