As the seemingly never ending awards season continues apace it was the turn of the Writers Guild of America yesterday to award their peers.
The big winner of the night was Breaking Bad which scooped the top award of Best Television Drama Series. Featuring a tour de force performance by Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a chemistry teacher who raises the money to pay for his lung cancer treatment by dealing drugs. The show also won the award for Episodic Drama for the episode Box Cutter by Vince Gilligan, a joint award that also went to Homeland writer Henry Bromell for the episode The Good Soldier.
Homeland, which started on Channel 4 last night in the UK, added to its tally by securing the New Series award. It features Claire Danes as a CIA agent out to prove that an American Soldier (Damien Lewis) has been "turned" by al-Qaeda.
Modern Family continued its awards dominance in the Comedy Series category and for the episode Caught in the Act written by Steven Levitan and Jeffrey Richman.
