Over on Deadline it has emerged that American Horror Story’s Kate Mara has been cast in David Fincher’s drama House of Cards.
House of Cards is the first original series to come from Netflix and is a remake of the hugely successful British TV series of the same name.
The series was based on Michael Dobbs’ book and is a political thriller centered around the scheming Francis Urquhart, Chief Whip of the Conservative party, who plots to unseat the current Prime Minister and ensure his own election as party leader thus making himself Prime Minister. A young female reporter gets close to the story and to Urquhart himself, risking her integrity and soul.
Ian Richardson made Urquhart his own, a ruthless shark of a man who possesses an undeniable charm, with Susannah Harker as the reporter.
Fincher’s American reboot will see Kevin Spacey taking on the Urquhart role, now re-named as Frank Underwood and with Robin Wright as his Lady Macbeth style wife.
Mara will take on the plum role of Zoe Barnes, the young reporter who becomes caught in Underwood’s web.
The 28 year old Mara, sister to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Rooney, most recently impressed audiences with her psychotic portrayal of a woman scorned in American Horror Story.
