Deadline has reported that DC Comics character Green Arrow is coming to the small screen and US network The CW have found their lead actor.
Stephen Amell will star in the pilot, titled Arrow, as Oliver Queen and his alter ego Green Arrow.
The Canadian born Amell has cropped up in small roles in Hung, The Vampire Diaries and Private Practice. Interestingly he was reportedly on the short list to take over the lead role in Spartacus following the untimely death of the much missed Andy Whitfield.
Green Arrow himself was created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp back in 1941. A billionaire, Oliver Queen fights crime as The Green Arrow, an expert archer who, unsurprisingly, is decked out in green garb. He has appeared on the small screen before in the hit series Smallville, which came to an end after 10 seasons in 2011. Actor Justin Hartley played the heroic Queen, teaming up with Clark Kent, the fledgling Superman. Hartley played the character for five years and proved widely popular with fans.
Arrow will be produced by Warner Bros. TV and the pilot is set to be directed by X-Files veteran David Nutter and will be written and executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim.
