The Vampire Diaries Taylor Kinney Lands Firefighter Role

Taylor Kinney joins Dick Wolf's latest show Chicago Fire.

Former The Vampire Diaries werewolf, Taylor Kinney, has nabbed a lead role in new firefighter pilot Chicago Fire.

Deadline reports that the NBC drama will be "action-driven" and set amongst the men and women of the Chicago Fire Department. The pilot has been penned by Wanted and 3:10 to Yuma writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas with Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Homeland) directing.

Joining Brandt and Haas as executive producers are Law and Order's Dick Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Danielle Gelber.

Kinney is best known as werewolf Mason Lockwood in The Vampire Diaries and most recently for dating singer Lady Gaga. He will play Squad Lieutenant Kelly Severide, described as an "adrenaline-junkie" and is the leader of the elite firefighters who attend to the most dangerous operations. Already cast is British actor Eamon Walker (Oz) as the captain of the squad.
