Brooklyn duo Tiny Masters Of Today release their second record 'Skeletons' this week through Mute (you can read our review here). It's the follow up to 2007's 'Bang Bang Boom Cake'.Ada (Vocals, Bass) gives us an insight into the tracks on the new album.
1. 'Drop The Bomb!'
This was just an excuse to yell stuff.
2. 'Two Dead Soldiers'
Part of this is an old nursery rhyme that seemed really weird. We found it on the internet and were playing around with it but then found out that was our grandfather's favorite nursery rhyme when he was a kid. He had just died and that seemed like a weird coincidence so we decided we had to use it.
3. 'Skeletons'
I wrote this as a poem in 5th grade, I keep all my old poems and we sometimes turn them into songs. I don’t think this was a metaphor, it was probably just about skeletons living in my closet.
4. 'Pop Chart'
We made up this song when Russell was in the band. We would sing it in the van. It was called Barber Shop. It made no sense. It went Barber Shop, Slap that Bad Boy Forget about the Ghetto, You're rocking for the Pop Chart. We all sang different parts but we saved part of the lyrics and turned it into Pop Chart. It is about people who will do anything to be famous. It is hard to say what Barber Shop was about.
5. 'Real Good'
Ivan and I almost never write songs together. He either matches stuff I write to music he writes or I write words to his music. He wrote this music first and I wrote the words to it. I was sort of thinking of "I'm a Cuckoo" by Belle and Sebastian but you probably won’t hear that in it.
6. 'Big Stick'
Of course, we don't really advocate violence but this is about all the people who need to be hit with a big stick. We get a lot of haters. We think it is funny usually, but it is kind of shocking the things people will say in comments on blogs our on our You Tube videos. I doubt they would say those things to our faces and we probably wouldn't hit them with big sticks either. We don’t really mind bad reviews either but sometimes they are just wrong about things that they really should just check on before they write them.
7. 'Monkey In The Middle'
This is about what it must be like to be really famous.
8. 'Big Bass Drum'
This is about banging on a big bass drum.
9. 'Ghost Star'
A lot of this was written using this word generator thing on the internet. We plugged in certain words and it turned it into this weird story about Ghost Stars and cars and that was how the song got started.
10. 'Understandable Honesty'
This is another one of my old poems. I wasn’t convinced it would work but it made sense with the music. Our friend Micah sang back-up on it.
11. 'Abercrombie Zombie'
This was about a trip to the mall with my aunt. It seemed like all the girls were giving me the evil eye because I wasn’t wearing the same clothes as them.
'Skeletons' is out now, you can pick it up here. You can watch the band's most recent videos here and here.
