Bleech – The Worthing Song

Little more than a few years ago, Bleech may have been a hit band. They could have ridden on the success of groups such as Ash and shown up the likes of Avril Lavigne, and indeed 'The Worthing Song' provides a great opportunity to observe the band's potential.Despite somewhat lacking the lo-fi, gutsy grunge that the press release so excitingly promises, this rather powerful release is a simple, very ‘90s song, with a catchy little “doo-ooh” forming the most prominent part of the track. Guitars dominate, but such guitar melodies, whilst certainly decent, don't invigorate much interest. Pete Doherty apparently said that “they’re alright!” Taken literally, this is quite a perfect brief summary of the band and the release too; it’s a decidedly average piece of music.
Bleech have the potential to do quite well, if they refine their music and develop it into a more interesting work, but at this stage 'The Worthing Song' just displays that they have a lot of work ahead of them.
