Bloc Party - Talons
Single ReviewsTheir new material may have split their fans, but Bloc Party have undoubtedly delighted many with 'Talons'.

If someone had the difficult task of describing Bloc Party in just three words it would surely be something along the lines of frenetic, unpredictable and passionate. 'Talons', their new single which was only added to their album after their unconventional release, is a fine example of this. The song chops and changes in such disconcerting amounts. 'Talons' has huge inner contrasts, each of them equally brilliant. Possessing a chorus to kill for, this is a classic Bloc Party song, which is more similar to debut album 'Silent Alarm' than 'A Weekend In The City'. The continuation of a melody through use of different instrumentation, including xylophone and guitar is another interesting feature of this song. Kele Okereke’s lyrics are as passionate as ever and, in the case of 'Talons', rather hauntingly aggressive. “I've been wicked, I've been arrogant” shows his almost violent self-derision.
Bloc Party are, with new album 'Intimacy', creating a sound which not only is fantastic but is also one which they seem to really like. 'Talons' is a great example of this; it's a fantastic and varied song. Their new material may have split their fans, but Bloc Party have undoubtedly delighted many with 'Talons'. No wonder so many new bands cite them as an influence.
