Broken Records - Slow Parade
Single ReviewsA charming, sweeping mood-lifter.
Fandango, 11th August 2008 / By Stephen Ackroyd
There's probably some kind of sweepstakes going in the Broken Records camp to see how many reviews will manage to shoe horn in a mention of Arcade Fire. It's the kind of reference point that appears everywhere, but rarely actually means an act are anywhere near to the Canadians impossibly high standards. In the case of this Edinburgh based bunch they're a damn site closer than most.'Slow Parade', their second single proper, is more understated than might be expected. No massive, soaring epic to be found here, but in it's lack of pomp there's a wonderful modesty to be found. Lilting vocals and eerie strings give way to what's essentially a charming, sweeping mood-lifter.
What's truly special about Broken Records, though, is the obvious potential for something really remarkable. We await more with glee.
