It’s well constructed and has had some good production behind it but it’s nothing special.

It’s well constructed and has had some good production behind it but it’s nothing special. Admittedly, I do think the singer’s vocals are perfect and can even forgive the cop-out “sha-la-la” lyric near the end of the song because I like the sound of his voice so much.
But I get the feeling that after this release an album will follow with two or three more singles of similar quality and the band will spend the next few years playing mid-line up slots on the smaller stages at major festivals. Who knows, maybe one of their members will even get to go on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
This is 2010 though and I want something a little bit more exciting than just a good rock song. Other young British bands such as Rolo Tomassi and These New Puritans have released records this year that pushed things forwards a bit. They make music that disrupts your thought process, that transfixes you until the songs stop and all you want to do is play them again. “Good” does not come close to describing their sound.
With the Chapel Club’s single, when the singer reaches the refrain “this is a love song”, all that I’m thinking is “yes, it is. So what?”
