Cloud Control - Meditation Song #2

Cloud Control - Meditation Song #2
Single Reviews

Unlike many of its peers, actually rather fun.

Label: Infectious
Released: 22nd November 2010

Like a lot of music based offices, DIY towers often listens to BBC 6music. It removes the need for office stereo rows when we're getting to the end of the year and the "OMGOSH New Releases!" mayhem has calmed down. The problem is, 6music actually turns out to be one big musical soup.

Stick with us here - we're heading into think-piece territory.

On sitting down to review Cloud Control's new single, we find ourselves going "Oh! It's this one!" We've listened to it before, but weeks of sitting in the playlist has homogenised (long word alert - Ed) everything into one big folky, kind of indie brew. Bluntly, it doesn't do it justice.

Placed alongside a world of folktastic miserablists it's lustre might not shine through as bright, but removed from the wider world 'Meditation Song #2' sounds really rather bloody lovely, and - unlike many of its peers - actually rather fun. A vocal hook that sticks in the mind and a sunny disposition that keeps the chills away make for a great single.

The lesson? Music sometimes plays better without others, and Cloud Control are a bit of alright. Class dismissed.
