Dananananaykroyd – Some Dresses

Single Reviews

Ah, another prime cut off the debut album from those improbably named ones.

Dananananaykroyd – Some Dresses Ah, another prime cut off the debut album from those improbably named ones. If you've not heard this band yet (and have therefore probably been under a rock since Bush was America's President) this is as good a place as any to start as all of the band's hallmarks are present. There's the thundering double drumming, strangled yelping vocals and intricate, face smashing guitar parts that sound like Hot Club de Paris coming afoul of building demolition.

We open with a chant, which is really the best way to open any song and this sounds like it was just recorded with a single mic at the other end of the room to a group shouting. There's plenty of shouting in what appears to be the choruses: “Pop Pop!” and “Huh Huh!” he goes, for reasons unfathomable. In fact we're not really sure what the whole song's about but Dananananaykroyd make it work and somehow seem to almost rhyme “ovulate” and “vertebrae”.

Just take a listen to this track. Once you've done that, head out and buy 'Hey Everyone'. “Can you smell it in the air?” It's the smell of a brilliant band.
