‘Waveforms’ is the new single and it’s a hell of a lot of fun to listen to. Shifting sounds, rippling synths and wobbly textures, it’s the type of pop everybody should be listening to. It begins with jerky percussion from space and sci-fi ‘blurps’ and it keeps adding to the mix.
The almost chanted vocals (not football chants, more like imagine if sentient robots from the future chanted in harmony) mix with the percussion, the melodies build and the odd sounds start to coalesce. It all builds into something smooth and oddly affecting. Wonky future pop that is infectious, fun and of much promise.
If there’s one minor quibble it’s that it maybe doesn’t take off as much as you would like. Yet after a year away working on their LP, Django Django have returned with something that shows how special they could be.
