Even the biggest scrooge can appreciate a good Christmas song.

Thematically, the song is an encouragement for ceasefire of any bitterness and hatred that’s allowed to grip the world for the rest of the year. “Let the rot stop just for one day” and “we can be best friends with the people we hate” are the lyrics that we latched onto. It’s wonderful to have a song that tackles both the wider nastiness of the world, whilst being incredibly personal and speaking to individuals. At the same time the song’s not preachy, there’s no overall religious tones, it’s heartfelt simple advice.
Of all the festive releases this year, Frightened Rabbit’s single is destined to be the most overlooked. However, it is by far the best, and everyone who is after a Christmas song this year is highly encouraged to go for this over any other. Even scrooges may find something to touch their cold hearts not just over December, but for the whole year. And really there is no higher praise for a Christmas song than that.
