Get Well Soon - You/Aurora/You/Seaside

Get Well Soon is the band and brain child of 25 year old Konstantin Gropper, a German songwriter. This double A side single is released a month shy of his debut album. Opening like a 1920’s ballad 'You/Aurora/You/Seaside's' beginning is as ostentatious as the title of the song itself. There are grand designs in this song, a desperate desire for grand and extravagant heights. Ambition not withstanding, there is little else on offer. The music dips in and out of a predictable format with Gropper vocals are simply not strong or charismatic enough to imbibe the song with any real feeling or drama.
It’s all style with little substance, pretention is the order of the day, and the songs passes in a haze of indifference. There are ideas abounding but none are original and there is a sense of self importance which is frankly unpalatable.
This wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t trying so hard to better than it really is. A swing and a miss.
