Holy Fuck - Red Lights
Single ReviewsThat funked-up basslines and a bit of upbeat stomp can go all the way.

Holy Fuck might be calling their eclectic blend of keyboard infused psych trance with guitars experimental rock, but this Canadian band with the oh-so not cultured name are well beyond that boring label. Certainly masters of the louder, more edgy varieties of ‘rock’, they are also experts at producing subtle and intrinsic melodies. On new single ‘Red Lights’, Holy Fuck prove that funked-up basslines and a bit of upbeat stomp can go all the way. Swirling in light a sonic helicopter on fire, this single comes straight out of a 70s disco, all glammed up with shuffling beats. On this instrumental piece, Holy Fuck seem to be aiming at writing the perfect theme tune to: 1. the new A-team movie, or 2. some sort of sleazy 70s porn flick. Both prospects sound utterly intriguing, as does the tune itself.
The overall atmosphere of this single is positively buoyant with a tastily dissonant disco party mood. Sleek and shiny this piece needs to be danced to, favourably in a skin-tight shiny silver lycra body-suit in a field somewhere near Glastonbury. That image? Holy Fuck.
