Japanese Voyeurs - That Love Sound
Japanese Voyeurs are certainly a raw lot, with plenty of guitars shredded through a rusty cheese grater, and singer Romily Alice’s vocals scarping along like bleeding fingernails down a blackboard. Which is to say their latest track is pretty fabulous, obviously.
‘That Love Sound’ is nothing like the hearts and flowers sugary bunny nonsense you might expect – rarely has a track been more inappropriately named (unless your idea of the love sound is the inner workings of an internal combustion engine seconds before the point of implosion). Instead you get a three minute ballsy feist fest, the kind of rock out girl fronted spiky pop that Courtney Love would love to come close to writing these days.
It’s the sonic equivalent of falling butt naked into an especially think bunch of stinging nettles, in a surprisingly good way. As the band put it so delicately on their MySpace page: “Our writing method is pretty simple; if it feels right, we put it in the song. Maybe that’s why some people say it sounds like vomit…” For the sadistic-yet-joyous soundtrack to your angst ridden life, look no further than these lovable (in spite of themselves) grunge-tinged scamps.
