Ladyhawke - Back Of The Van
'Back Of The Van' is one of few tracks which can place you in two minds.
On the one hand, it's a nice, laid-back piece of synth-pop cheese which is full of nostalgic hooks and a none-too-challenging chorus that would be at home in the sort of Eighties fairytale action films of which Ladyhawke, aka New Zealand-born Pip Brown takes her name.
Then on the other, and despite Pip playing all instruments on the record, there's nothing that grabs you. It's all just a bit average.
If you wanted 'contemporary' and 'crossover appeal' in this realm, you'd listen to some Van She. So it's no surprise that Michael De Francesco of said band is on production then?
