Are Official Secrets Act a bit xenophobic? They're named after a parliamentary constitution largely concerned with national security, and if its title is anything to go by, 'The Girl From The BBC' is more British than a Page 3 girl dressed in nothing but the Union Jack.The main feature of 'The Girl From The BBC' seems to be repetition, and lots of it. Accompanying the incessant head-nodding rhythm is, well, a slight lack of deep and meaningful lyrics. Singer Tom Burke, unique though his voice is, sounds a little bit bored as he mumbles "I like her, she likes me" over and over again. Strange though it is, it doesn't render the song unlistenable - the odd burst of feedback and chords played on guitars that sound slightly broken make it interesting, not to mention quite original.
It's fair to say that 'The Girl From The BBC' is a bit like the corporation's own treasure Fearne Cotton - it may get on your nerves a bit, but overall there's something a bit cute about it.
