The track is big sounding, with beefy guitars, epic drums and a strong vocal with some opportunity for downtime during the verses when the piano is allowed to shine through in the mix. The introduction of a synth during the bridge adds an 80s essence to the whole song, and is a nice distraction from the epic-ness of the song which is quite draining on the eardrums.
The lyrics disappoint on the whole; the song is very much a repeated verse and chorus, however the chorus lyrics are very memorable and have a habit of sticking in your head for a few hours (Your testimony shakes and all you want it breaks / I would never leave / You’ve found somebody else is it true?)
On the whole, the song is very listenable, and hopefully a taste of what their debut album has to offer. It has a certain commercial quality to it which will go down a storm with radio stations all over the UK and I suspect the band will be up there with the likes of counterparts White Lies before we even know it.
