When you hear it with other songs it all makes more sense.

Rose Elinor Dougall - Carry On 'Carry On', Rose Elinor Dougall’s last single before her debut solo album, carries on (oh dear) the romantic sound with twirly guitars and words-with-three-or-more-syllables of her previous singles. It’s a shame it’s a bit lacklustre in comparison. She sounds distant, which works well on some of her songs making her seem effortlessly cool and untouchable, but her accent gets a bit Nancy from Oliver at some points which is off-putting. Although with subsequent listens it’s quite fun joining in with it.

Her solo endeavours (and by now The Pipettes themselves) are much better than The Pipettes' original sickly polka-dotted novelty act. Her stunning voice and the romantic sound in all of her songs are really brilliant and despite the fact that there is something very human about her, it’s quite clear that she’s a star. This song doesn’t show that off so much by itself but when you hear it with other songs it all makes more sense. Rating: 6/10
