Following on from the bands’ triumphant headline performance at this year’s Latitude festival, this new single, taken from the album 'Meo suo I eyrum vio endalaust', is an exuberant piece of Sigur Ros prettiness. What exactly the band are singing about is anyone’s guess, but the track is a joyous cacophony of trumpets, strings and uplifting melodies that follow on from where much of the material from previous album 'Takk' left off. Aligning itself with but never reaching the all conquering grandeur from 'Takk' that was 'Hoppipolla', this is a slightly more restrained piece of work that graciously tugs at all the right heartstrings and is the perfect antidote to those fast approaching winter blues.

Like a series of small fireworks going off in the sky, the chiming guitars, plush vocals and ever present brass embrace the single with an extra layer of sunshine that seems to end before the track has fully started. Sigur Ros remain a band who are best left to blossom in their magnificence, and it is hard not to assume that some of the band’s usual splendour has been short changed somewhat by the single’s three and a half minute time frame. Nonetheless, the single remains a radiant slice of magic from a band that continues to impress with each new release. Rating: 9/10
