The Accidental - I Can Hear Your Voice

The Accidental - I Can Hear Your Voice
Single Reviews

A bit too repetitive to be wholly impressed by it, but its moderate swelling towards the end of the track leaves a lovely aftertaste.

The Accidental comprise a patchwork of musicians and songwriters, including Tunng's main man Sam Genders and members of relatively unknown folk/indie bands, (The Memory Band, The Bicycle Thieves). It doesn't take two listens to grasp what The Accidental are about; they are as twee as mixed gender harmonious folk can get. 'I Can Hear Your Voice' is pleasant enough, and like the rest of The Accidental material, the sound is sweet and organic. It's quite refreshing to hear a gently-gently approach from a British band, rather than the status-quo of guitar led tracks currently attacking the charts.

'I Can Hear Your Voice' isn't the best introductory track to The Accidental. 'Illuminated Red' gives a much more succinct impression of the band, with its Badly Drawn Boy similarities. 'I Can Hear Your Voice' is a bit too repetitive to be wholly impressed by it, but its moderate swelling towards the end of the track leaves a lovely aftertaste. If you are indeed a fan of Tunng or the current swath of 'New Weird American' folk music, The Accidental are worthy of attention for their arrival on a sparse British folk scene.
