The Answering Machine – Obviously Cold

Single Reviews

Layered and enjoyable, with a catchy chorus and some rather adorable harmonies.

The Answering Machine – Obviously Cold When a band’s write-up contains the words 'avant-garde' and 'art', it's easy to think two things: ‘pretentious’ and ‘probably not’. The Answering Machine’s latest offering ‘Obviously Cold’, however, is layered and enjoyable, with a catchy (if somewhat repetitive) chorus and some rather adorable harmonies.

The overall sound is infectious, despite a feeling of vague familiarity (read: this is nothing we haven’t heard before), and the drums and vocal harmonies break at around the 2 minute mark makes for an interesting twist. Lead vocals are delivered through the medium of a rather delicious Manchester accent, and if you’re a fan of pretend shouting as a background loop and rather prominent electric guitar riffs then you’ll no doubt enjoy this release.
