The Brighton Port Authority - Seattle Feat. Emmy The Great

Featuring Emmy The Great is a stroke of genius. Layering the mellow, effortless vocals over what seems like even more effortless instrumental is something of an achievement. The chorus gathers some speed and for the artist formally known as Norman Cook it’s an even greater achievement to shed the snake-like skin of Fatboy Slim and create a harmonious yet epic tune. By allowing subtle, wandering basslines to roll around as a twinkle of synth lies over the top means that the vocals take precedence and carry the meaning of the song.

And if meaning and lyrics aren’t you particular bag there are a couple of remixes thrown into the bargain. The drum’n’bass tendencies of Brookes Brothers give a less subtle twist to the song whereas Azzido Da Bass deflates it down to the bare bones of Simian-esque electro with a grimy bassline hook controlling the song rather than the sweet and dazzling vocals of the original.
