The Cribs - Cheat On Me

The Cribs - Cheat On Me
Single Reviews

A clunky, middle-of-the-road track that’s easily forgettable.

Label: Wichita
Released: 31st August 2009
Reviewer: Wendy Davies
What a strange command for Ryan Jarman to give. Cheat on me? We're sure Kate Nash, as Jarman’s other half, must have been a tad confused when hearing this track for the first time.

With the arrival of new member Johnny Marr, the band’s forthcoming album ‘Ignore the Ignorant’ is eagerly anticipated. However, lead single ‘Cheat On Me’ severely disappoints, with a bland, uninspired rant to a partner about their troubled relationship, with Jarman’s answer being for the partner to cheat on him in order for them to break up.

This track is neither uplifting nor refreshing, nor signals a new and better sound, which would be expected with Johnny Marr on board. Instead, what we are given is a clunky, middle-of-the-road track that’s easily forgettable in the time it takes to change radio stations. They should probably have marked this as a B-Side during production.
