The Faint - The Geeks Were Right
Single Reviews

They came, they wowed, they... er, went AWOL for four years.

Released: 1st July 2008

They came, they wowed, they... er, went AWOL for four years. It's time for electroclash scamps The Faint to make their big comeback. Maybe we've just got high expectations, but this is the band that brought us 'Worked Up So Sexual' and 'Desperate Guys'. 'The Geeks Were Right' will inevitably blow our proverbial funk-loving socks off. Won't it?

It's not that the track is bad, it's just a bit unremarkable. Driven by a stop-start riff and lyrics delivered by Todd Fink as if he's reading a futuristic nursery rhyme, it could probably convert a few Faint virgins. For the rest of us, however, it's more of the same. Buzzing basslines, effect-laden vocals and understated catchiness: at best, it sounds like a b-side to a single from 'Danse Macabre' or 'Wet From Birth'. At worst? Well, let's look on the bright side. It'll probably sound pretty cool on a new E4 advert.
