A gorgeous, rich sound that could touch something tender in the coldest of hearts.

Adding to the band’s unshakeable back catalogue, the first single from much-anticipated album 'High Violet' starts with an instantly compelling drum beat not dissimilar to that of previous single 'Mistaken For Strangers': this sets the tone for the gloomy sense of urgency that the rest of the song will go on to express so subtly. Deep, looming piano notes provide the backdrop to the verses, acting as more of a tension-building undercurrent than a melody-maker; but when the chorus kicks in, you'll know why. Singer Matt Berninger's voice soars without warning, and each instrument instantly abandons its previous monotone in favour of creating a gorgeous, rich sound that could touch something tender in the coldest of hearts. So reclaim your crowns, The National: we're happy to have you back.
