The Strange Death Of Liberal England - Come On You Young Philosophers!
Single Reviews

Packed with happy horns and gleeful glockenspiel.

A definite anthem for the summer, 'Come On You Young Philosophers!' is a fun singalong of a single from Portsmouth collective, The Strange Death Of Liberal England. Packed with happy horns and gleeful glockenspiel (too much alliteration?), the band's latest release sounds like the efforts of a more grown up Los Campesinos. TSDOLE are a talented bunch of songwriters, and there's little to criticise about this single – it's cheerful, well produced and generally just good.

B-Side 'Sometimes I Just Need You There' is, strikingly, better than the main feature. Perhaps it's this writer's weakness for anything that uses a banjo, but this is as worthy of A-Side material as anything the band has put out. The Strange Death Of Liberal England appear to have engineered the perfect pop song formula, an impressive feat for a band who take their name from a political-historical work (the band even gets a name check in the Wikipedia article for the book. For the book!) We challenge you not to sing along to the refrain of “I see you when the sun shines”. Of course, it's possible – if you're totally heartless.
