The Wave Pictures - Just Like A Drummer

Single Reviews

Self congratulatory, self referencing and a little bit sinister, you might not want to like The Wave Pictures, but hey you don’t really have a choice.

The Wave Pictures - Just Like A Drummer Films! Documentary! Writers! Hipsters! We like The Wave Pictures! we really do. They have good lyrics, y’know. The kind that you would like to write in yr blog and say they were your own. Until that really cool guy reads it and lyke outed you for not being the real mastermind behind lines like ‘waking up with the thunder – of your typewriter every night’.

It’s almost as good as people like Hefner were, with all sorts of layering and allusions, both lyrical and musical. When the malleable guitar line (see: jiggling all over the place) ceases it culminates in a call and answer, certified those other cool kids the scouts. Finally, a perfect bit of smoking keys (only bettered in another EP track ‘Time to Leave Town’) that is begging to be invited into your brain.

Self congratulatory, self referencing and a little bit sinister, you might not want to like The Wave Pictures, but hey you don’t really have a choice.
