Veronica Falls - Beachy Head

Single Reviews

Another intriguing side to an intriguing band.

No Pain In Pop, 14th June 2010 / By Jade French
Veronica Falls - Beachy Head There might be some sinister background vocals lurking with morgue like harmonising and a hint of The Cramps floating through but there is something optimistically ominous about Veronica Falls single ‘Beachy Head’. It rolls along nicely with a riff you can get stuck into and the belting female vocals lift a little of the heaviness. It’s a murky story told with a refrain of "I’m gonna miss you / When you’re gone", with layers twisting over each other to create a dense and little bit scary song.

Perhaps the uplift has something to do with a band who is giving a twist to the lo-fi vibe. Having toured with Teenage Fanclub and Vivian Girls you can see the road well travelled and Veronica Falls could perhaps be dismissed as another band hot on the tails of a genre wave… But their touch of punk, hint of garage and undeniable catchy song makes you think they’re a step ahead.

And if you’re hooked in with ‘Beachy Head’ then wait until you get hit with relaxed B-Side ‘Staying Here’. A slowed down vignette of their lead single which gives all parts of the band a moment to mull over. It shows another intriguing side to an intriguing band.
