Violet Violet - C-C-C-Cat

Single Reviews

Generic 'feisty' riffs mix with 'aggressive' yelps.

NRONE Records, 20th April 2009 / By Lucy Tesco
Violet Violet - C-C-C-Cat Girl group is the new thing. Although to be fair, it's not really new. Kick-ass ladies, packed full of sexy woman angst and bearing instruments has been main line channeled since the 60s, but their strength comes and goes, waning in effect. Violet Violet seem to fall through the cracks a bit.

Having sort of made their name a mini-mark last year, their fourth single comes at a time when one should react in a “Sweet! More girls with guitars!” way, but on listening to the threesome's new track, you can't help but feel let down. Apart from the female vocals, switching the other band members to blokes wouldn't seem to change much. I say that for recording purpose only, as one must remember to distinguish performance from production.

Generic 'feisty' riffs mix with 'aggressive' yelps. The lyrics echo the beat, but nothing really marks. Catchy as 'C-C-C-Cat' is, it doesn't succeed in taking a comfortable position in your body, moving you to dance or even really appreciate. It's a damn shame though, when last year saw the likes of Vivian Girls prove that sisters can and will do it for themselves, all the while giving off a nice and tight punk ethos. I guess in this case, Violet Violet may just have given too much of a shit.
