We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices

According to the hype, We Were Promised Jetpacks are here to prove that Scotland's soil is still fertile enough to produce the next big thing - so you'd be forgiven for writing off 'Quiet Little Voices' as being more Futureheads than futuristic. As Pete Doherty fades into irrelevance and electronics become commonplace in indie music, it's difficult not to scoff that We Were Promised Jetpacks may be a few years too late.

There's just one problem with that theory, though - 'Quiet Little Voices' is catchy, thrilling and utterly addictive. Singer Adam Johnson's words are repetitive without becoming tedious, and the rhythm- punctuated by spiky guitars and a relentless snare beat- gives the song a spine-shivering sense of tension. A refreshing ode to the "ain't broke, don't fix" mantra, 'Quiet Little Voices' is a simple triumph in the midst of the autotune age.
