Wolf Gang – Lions In Cages

Wolf Gang – Lions In Cages
Single Reviews

What it lacks in ingenuity it more than makes up for in sheer charm.

Label: Atlantic
Released: 19th November 2010
Reviewer: Ben Ross
It’s the bombardment of synths and percussion that follows the near haunting opening 15 seconds that’ll get you every time. Wolf Gang's ‘Lions In Cages’ is somewhat of an alt-pop gem. Soft melodies, soaring choruses and an overall sound not too dissimilar to chart topping favourites MGMT, throw it all together and there’s not a lot you can complain about.

For what it lacks in ingenuity it more than makes up for in sheer charm. Enjoyable from start to blissful-piano finish this is a track that isn’t easily forgotten. Whilst yes it does sound scarily like Iglu & Hartly’s ‘In This City’, in fact the opening line in ‘Lions’ is "In the city" (a mere coincidence?) it’s a far more serious and engaging affair.

It’s easy on the ears, has radio friendly written all over it and has been doing the rounds on Soccer AM, how can Wolf Gang not be huge off the back of this track? Play his cards right and he has one hell of a bright future ahead of him, so keep your eyes peeled, this is just the beginning.
