Shocked Elevator Family formed in Birmingham in 2001 as a side project of noisy upstarts thee Reverends. Billed as The Monotones, the band played their first show in a school hall. However they soon decided to ditch the 'sexy school boy' image, and changed their name to Whitaker's Almanac.
