They Don’t Make Bands Like The Longpigs Anymore…

… more’s the pity.

Downloading, Leaks And The Internal Monologue.

[Please excuse the slightly ranty nature of this. It’s not supposed to be any kind of considered opinion, more an internal argument spoken out loud.]

It’s with a sad face I see that the Los Campesinos! album has leaked. Not because they’re not a favourite down our neck of the woods; they’re one of those bands that excite us enough to keep searching for new talent every day - the kind of band you’d kill to have a chance to work with. No, we just feel really bad for them, and their label. Sure, Wichita aren’t the kind of label that will go under because of a phenomenally anticipated record leaking a few weeks before release, but still… Read the rest of this entry »

thisispop.jpg

Excitement all round as the finished stock for DIY’s first album release of 2008 turns up. Inprobable amounts of boxes all filled with This Is Pop’s debut 8 track effort; a record that’s had us wrapped round it’s little finger for what seems like forever now. If you’ve not heard them already, check them out (myspace) - you won’t be dissapointed.

Exciting News Part 2: Introducing.. Model Horror

We already said most of what we could here, but that doesn’t stop us raving about the freshly inked bit of paper we have in front of us with Model Horrors names scribbled all over it.

‘We Are Here’ / ‘Stand Still’ will with the stores in early March on limited edition 7″ and download. We’re just sorting the artwork out now, and it looks ace.

The band have already recorded a live session for Hew Stephens on Radio One and been spun by Steve Lamacq on the very same station.

You can check out the band’s Myspace here: http://www.myspace.com/themodelhorror.

Exciting News Part 1: We Are The Physics Announce January Tour

As the press release says:

Glasgow mutant science punk rock weirdlings We Are The Physics head out on tour on the 16th of January in support of their debut, download-only taster single for This is Fake DIY Records.

The band are currently holed up in Primal Scream’s Bunker Studio with Paul Epworth (Futureheads, Bloc Party, Kate Nash), possibly holding him captive and working on their debut album We Are The Physics Are OK At Music due for release in the spring.

The band released two limited edition singles in 2007, toured Germany, France, Finland and Russia and appeared at festivals across the UK.

They’ve been hailed by the NME as possible ‘the most perfect new band ever’, 2008 could be a big year for Glasgow’s most exciting bespectacled new band…

The dates are:

January
16 - Barfly, London
17 - Barfly, Cardiff
18 - Club NME, Swansea
19 - Leadmill, Sheffield
21 - Bar Academy, Birmingham
22 - Night and Day, Manchester
23 - King Tut’s, Glasgow
24 - Cumberland Arms, Newcastle
25 - Fibbers, York
26 - Faversham, Leeds

Check out their MySpace: www.myspace.com/wearethephysics

That’ll be a new signing then. And not just any new signing, but, in our humble opinions possibly the best live band in the country right now. The album, as you’d expect, is spectacular (we give it 6 out of 5). Hurrah!

Hello! (& Happy New Year)

So, a new year, a new start. This, dear viewers, is the This Is Fake DIY Records label blog. Yes, we have a whole website to prattle on about things, but this is where you’ll find not only all the news and happenings going on at DIY Records HQ (or ‘the corner of the office’, as it’s more affectionally known), but also a load of behind the scenes stuff. It’ll be interesting, honestly!

So, without further ado…
